Application of IHSDM
IHSDM Module(s) used:
• Policy Review (both projects)
• Crash Prediction (both projects)
• Design Consistency (both projects)
• Traffic Analysis (both projects)
• Intersection Review (both projects)
Purpose of using IHSDM on this project:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of new construction projects currently underway, including safety upgrades
- Begin Corridor Investment Planning for the highways.
Stage(s) of the project development process in which IHSDM was applied (e.g., planning, preliminary design, final design, etc.):
All IHSDM data was input as post-construction for the proposed upgrades, and as existing for the remainder. The results can now be integrated into future planning for the corridor.
How IHSDM results were used to make design decisions:
The software wasn’t the basis for any direct decision-making along the corridor, since certain roadside parameters couldn’t yet be accounted for. However, the process required, and the general concept was shared throughout the organization by means of many presentations and question/answer periods for other potential user groups.
